Complete Softside Waterbed Cover Systems — All Options in One Place
Not sure which cover system is right for you? This page brings together all three of our softside cover options — Plush Top, Pillowtop, and Euro Top — so you can compare and choose. All systems use the same core components; the only difference is what goes on top of your bed.
What Every Cover System Includes
- Border Panel
- 4 Foam Rails
- Safety Liner
- Your choice of Plush Top, Pillowtop, or Euro Top quilted cover
What is a Softside Waterbed?
A softside waterbed fits inside any standard bed frame — no dedicated wooden frame required. It looks and feels like a conventional mattress but delivers the therapeutic, pressure-relieving benefits of water support. Unlike a hardside waterbed (which requires a rigid wooden frame and has a traditional waterbed look), a softside is easier to move, set up, and style in any bedroom.
Important: Bladder Sold Separately
The cover system does not include the waterbed bladder. You will need to order a compatible softside bladder separately:
- Softside waterbed bladder (ER400, ER600, ER9254, or ER9256 — others are not compatible)
- Waterbed heater (1 per bladder; 2 for dual bladder setups)
- Fill & drain kit
- Water conditioner
- Metal bed frame
Foundations
Foundations are available but must be quoted by our office due to high shipping costs. Please call or email us for a foundation quote before ordering.
The Good News: You Can Always Upgrade
Start with a Plush Top today and upgrade to a Pillowtop or Euro Top later — just order the replacement cover. All our softside covers are interchangeable, so you never have to replace the entire system. Questions? Call us during business hours or email/chat anytime.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include the waterbed bladder?
No — this is the cover system only. You'll need to order a compatible softside bladder separately (ER400, ER600, ER9254, or ER9256). Other bladders are not compatible with this cover system.
What's the difference between the Plush Top, Pillowtop, and Euro Top?
All three use the same border panel, foam rails, and safety liner — the only difference is the quilted top. The Plush Top is a classic soft surface. The Pillowtop adds an extra cushioning layer for deeper pressure relief. The Euro Top adds a 3-inch compartment for interchangeable latex comfort layers, letting each sleeper choose their own firmness.
Can I upgrade my cover top later?
Yes! All Sterling softside covers are interchangeable. Start with a Plush Top and upgrade to a Pillowtop or Euro Top anytime — just order the replacement cover. You never have to replace the entire system.
What sizes are available?
The cover system is available in California King (72 x 84 inches) and Eastern King (76 x 80 inches). Full size is available by special order only — contact us for a quote.
Do I need a special bed frame?
No dedicated waterbed frame is required. A softside waterbed fits inside any standard bed frame. We recommend our heavy-duty metal bed frame for best results. Foundations are available but must be quoted separately due to shipping costs — contact us before ordering.
How many heaters do I need?
One heater per bladder. If you have a dual bladder setup (two separate bladders), you will need two heaters — one for each side.
